New Dawn for Rolls Royce

It’s a new Dawn for Rolls Royce; with the debut of its all-new convertible model.

The manufacturer showcased the model online last night ahead of its official reveal at the Frankfurt Motor Show, next week.

The new convertible, named Dawn, has a 2+2 configuration and features a twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 powertrain, with a power output of 563bhp at 5,250rpm and a torque rating of 575 lb ft at 1,500rpm. Unladen weight sits at 2560kg, while its top speed is 250kph, with a 0-100kph of 4.9 seconds.

The manufacturer claims the model to “the quietest open-top car ever made”, with the roof operating in almost complete silence in just over 20 seconds, at a speed of up to 50kph.

It has a newly designed suspension system for the convertible and comes on 20inch alloy wheels, with 21inch being available as an option.

Inside is an updated 10.25inch multimedia and navigation system – the spirit of ecstasy rotary controller presents a touch pad (rather than a touch screen which might leave unsightly fingerprints at driver and passenger eye level), with the ability to write characters by finger, as well as a scroll through function. The system also recognises Latin and Arabic characters as well as Mandarin. Four individual bucket seats can also be seen, alongside a new clock design featuring the car’s name.

Additional features include automatic cruise control system, satellite aided transmission, automatic dipping of full-beam headlights, a roll-over protection system, plus a heat detection system to detect both human and animal heat signatures, issuing an audible warning to the driver of possible danger.

The model takes its name from the original Rolls Royce Silver Dawn drophead of 1952, and will be built at its Goodwood site in Britain. This famous and rare Rolls Royce name was only ever applied to 28 very special drophead bodies, between 1950 and 1954.
