Frankfurt 2015. Mercedes Concept IAA

*NOW UPDATED WITH VIDEO* Mercedes has unveiled its most recent study, in the form of the new Concept IAA, at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new concept is, Mercedes says, two cars in one; a leader in aerodynamics with a Cd value of 0.19, automatically switching to aerodynamic mode when the vehicle reaches speeds of 80kph, and a four-door coupe.

Boasting a petrol/electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain, it has an output of 275bhp (205kW).

The design is an interesting one, as with all concepts, they’re all pretty futuristic, clean and, to put it bluntly, over the top. But, the overall lines of this new concept are promising. It has a minimalist “shark nose” profile, with horizontal louvres to the front grille.

It has a wheelbase of 2975mm, is 5040mm long (5430mm in aerodynamic mode), 1995mm wide and 1305mm high.

Inside, a whole new interior design can be found, donning slimmer streamline seats, which the manufacturer claims will be seen in future saloon models, such as the E-Class – so an E-Class Maybach could well be on the cards, then? There is also a two-spoke steering wheel design, which we love, so lets hope that’s put into production. Watch this space.
