Maybach once again. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

Maybach is back, although as part of a big, super-swanky Mercedes S600.

Remember Maybach? It was a classic name in limousines revived by Mercedes-Benz for a series of super-luxurious modern cars. Unfortunately, it never really took off, and the sub-brand was scrapped in 2011.

But now it’s back. Sort of. At both the Los Angeles and Guangzhou Motor Shows, Mercedes revealed a new, super-luxury version of the S-Class that adopts the Maybach name once again. Called, somewhat unoriginally, the Mercedes-Maybach S 600, it’s a very long S-Class but with added opulence.

The Merc-Mayb S600 (as we’re calling it from now on) is 20cm longer than event the extended wheelbase ‘regular’ S-Class and sports under the bonnet a 530bhp V12 engine. Customer demand for ultra-luxurious large saloons is huge in China, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. Demand is also likely to be high in the USA.

The Merc-Mayb has been designed with chauffeur driving in mind, and so comes as standard with two executive seats in the rear, which recline for chilling out between high-value deals. We fully expect to see at least a couple of these touch down in the Middle East too.
