Lotus has announced the all-new Elise Cup 250, which replaces its Elise Cup 220 in the current range.

Claiming the Elise Cup 250 is its fastest Elise model yet, the model has shed 21kg over its predecessor. It remains powered by the 1.8-litre engine, but with an additional 26bhp – totally 243bhp, giving the model a 0-100kph of 3.9seconds.

It’s also quicker on the company’s Hethel test track, achieving a track time of 1 minute 34 seconds; four seconds quicker than the 220.

Aerodynamics have been a main focus in the body’s changes, resulting in 155kg of downforce at its top speed of 248kph.

The same suspension and braking components from the Cup 220 are used alongside new AP Racing twin-piston front caliper and Brembo rear calipers, which work together with the track-focussed anti-lock braking system. A new ‘Sport’ mode is included which is said to increase throttle response and lowers traction slip.

A full Alcantara interior in red or black can be seen inside, with in-car entertainment and a new engine start button.

The Lotus Elise Cup 250 comes as a roadster as standard, with a hard top available at a cost. Prices start from $64,000.
