Jaguar’s F-TYPE Coupé is revealed

The Jaguar F-TYPE gets a roof and will be available in three versions – regular, S and R. Start saving.

Ever since Jaguar whipped the cover off its coverless F-TYPE Roadster, we’ve been fully expecting a coupe version, and now it’s here – and it’s unsurprisingly called the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé.

The headline model of the new hard-top sports car is the F-TYPE R Coupé, which boasts 542bhp from its Roots-supercharged 5-litre V8 and will hit 100kph in 4.2 seconds, carrying on to an electronically limited top speed of 300kph. It also features the second generation Electronic Active Differential and the Adaptive Dynamics system that optimises damper rates up to 500 times a second. A torque-vectoring-by-braking system is standard on the R, which helps the car turn by precisely braking inside wheels to counter understeer. Performance seats inside have the letter R embossed on them, just to help you show off. The R logo is also featured on the bottom of the flat-bottomed steering wheel, although you can opt for a round wheel if you prefer.

Next up is the F-TYPE S Coupé, which sports a 375bhp supercharged 3-litre V6. That’ll propel it to 100kph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 275kph. Meanwhile, the standard F-Type Coupé has the same V6 with 335bhp, a top speed of 235kph and a 0-100kph time of 5.3 seconds. So none of the range is hanging about then.

Visually, the F-TYPE Coupé is much as we expected – an F-Type with a roof very much in the mould of the C-X16 concept car. But there’s more to it than that. The extra stiffening means the aluminium-hewn F-Type Coupé is the stiffest production Jag ever, with a torsional rigidity of 33,000Nm/degree. For non-engineers, that’s pretty stiff.

All the cars feature Jaguar‘s eight-speed Quickshift transmission, and carbon-ceramic brakes are available as options on the S and R models. Are we excited to try it? Oh yes.
