Audi has unveiled the new Q2 compact crossover at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. Inspired by the Crosslane Coupe concept that made its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the Q2 is the fourth ‘Q’ model on Audi’s line-up and will be aimed at the new Mercedes GLA and the upcoming BMW X2.

There will be three TFSI petrol engines to choose from, including a 114bhp 1-litre TFSI three-cylinder, and two TFSI four-cylinders in 148bhp 1.4-litre and 187bhp 2-litre derivatives. It’s also been speculated that ‘S’ and ‘RS’ versions of the Q2 will arrive before the end of the year, possibly with the same turbocharged 335bhp 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit from the RS Q3 we took on a road trip to Le Mans last year.

All engine options will be mated to a six-speed manual ‘box as standard, though the Audi’s S-tronic automatic transmission is available as an option. Front-wheel-drive is available as standard, while the four-wheel-drve Quattro system is available as an option or as standard on 2-litre models.

Designed to attract a younger clientele to the Audi SUV market, the design takes a ‘bold new direction’, key amongst which is a new grille with polygon detailing at the front. There’s also a more angular headlight design and new R8-esque contrasting plastic across the C-pillar. Inside is Audi’s MMI infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus leather trim with contrast stitching. Audi’s virtual cockpit, as found on the TT, is available as an option.

Reports suggest the entry-level Q2 will be priced from around $29,300, with the model going on sale this summer. Oh, and if for some reason you’ve ever wanted to see a mid-sized Audi SUV as a pancake, then look no further…
