Fisker Karma. Into The Record Books

If we were to ask what two world records Fisker (makers of the Karma luxury sports sedan), have just broken, what would your guesses be? Highest ever top speed for a hybrid car? The quickest 0-100kph time for a hybrid car? Longest economy run? Cheapest/most expensive hybrid saloon currently on four wheels?

Yep, you’ll all in the ballpark we found ourselves when asked the same question. Turns out though we were way out, since the two world records that the company have just broken are slightly innocuous.

Having sold over 130 Karmas since January, the South California-based marque was able to round up 45 of them (plus owners) and consequently break the world record for the Highest Number of Single-Brand Electric Vehicles to be Charged Simultaneously, with 45. Thanks to support vehicles on hand, Fisker also managed to break the world record for the Highest Number of Mixed-Brand Electric Vehicles to be Charged Simultaneously, with 50.

Enthusiasts and well-wishers were able to witness the (ahem) historic moment at an event in Venio, Netherlands, which Dutch astronaut André Kuipers also attended. But don’t think this was just a ‘plug-in and away you go’ exercise. More than 60 temporary charge points were installed to ensure success.

One does have to wonder though what would have happened if power had been lost midway through the charge, rendering the Karmas immobile. The parking tickets alone may well have set a new record.
