The 488 Spider convertible is powered by the 488 coupe’s 3902cc turbo-charged V8 unit, which pushes out 661bhp and an impressive 560lb ft of torque, propelling the model from 0-100kph in 3 seconds.

The 488 Spider uses the same retractable hard top which debuted on the 458 Spider, which can be raised or lowered in 14 seconds. The convertible also has longer exhaust headings, equal-length piping and the flat-plane crankshaft, for a completely distinctive sound.

The new Ferrari also has a new SSC2 side-slip angle control system making it easier for non-professional drivers to drive on the limit. The manufacturer also claims a 9% improvement on steering wheel responsiveness, bringing it to 0.06 seconds.

Design of the model has been tailored around the introduction of that retractable roof with aerodynamics in mind., with flying buttresses which optimally channel air flows to the engine cover.

The 488 Spider also debuts a new Blu Corsa colour.
