Lamborghini unveils 740bhp Aventador Roadster Superveloce at Pebble Beach Concours

Yep, what you’re looking at here is the new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster Superveloce, recently debuted at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours. And let’s cut right to chase, it costs $550,000. That’s $45,000 more than the hardtop lunatic that debuted in Geneva.

So then, what exactly do you get for this wallet-crippling price tag, aside from the wind ruffling through your expense account? Exclusivity – or at least a degree of it – for one, since only 500 examples will be built. And performance for quite another. Like the hardtop SV we recently took for a spin as part of Lamborghini’s Accademia, the SV Roadster houses a 6.5-litre V12 mated to a seven-speed manual gearbox that kicks out 740bhp, 509lb ft of torque, a sound akin to a mountain lion set on fire, and a 350kph top speed. Zero to the ton is also demolished in just 2.9 seconds, a scant one-tenth slower than the coupe.

Lighter and more track-optimised than the Aventador on which it is based, the Superveloce boasts a fully stripped out cabin incorporating carbon fibre fabric backed sport seats and swathes of Alcantara. The Roadster’s hard top folding roof – which has added 50kg to the coupe’s 1525kg kerb weight – is also made of carbon fibre for lower centre of gravity.

Until an official release video arrives, we thought you might like to see the hard top SV being put to the test around the Nürburgring. Expect tyre squealing and Italian clichés.
