Aston Martin CC100 Speedster Concept. Honouring the DBR1

Aston Martin reveals the new CC100 Speedster Concept, a tribute to both the company’s centenary and one of its most successful sportscars, the DBR1.

There are numerous ways for a manufacturer to celebrate hundred years in business. The opening of a new showroom or two. The launch of the next generation Vanquish, or Rapide. Landing a brand new Vanquish on the top of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai in a world first. All of these options though were clearly a little conservative for Aston Martin, who instead – or I should say as well as – have debuted a new sports car prototype, the CC100 Speedster Concept.

The new Concept draws most influence though from Aston’s iconic DBR1 – the first of a breed – which garnered international acclaim in 1959 following Stirling Moss’s victory in the roadster during the 1000km of Nurburgring. A fitting debut saw the new CC100 take a lap of the 20km Nordschleife alongside the DBR1 – with Moss at the wheel – ahead of this weekend’s Nurburgring 24 Hours.

Under the bonnet lies the same 6.0-litre V12 that powers the new Vantage, putting power around the 565bhp mark, while a varnished carbon fibre body means the new CC100 weighs 400kg less than the V12 Vantage. Combined, this equates to a 0-100kph time of around four seconds. You can stop reaching for the mortgage loan application too, since the model has already been sold for a cool half mill to a private collector.

We’re wondering if perhaps a cake might have been easier…?
