Aston Martin has confirmed that a limited edition production of the Vanquish Zagato Concept unveiled at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como. Just 99 will roll off the production line for a rumoured $735,000 a pop. And before you ask, yes, they’re all sold out.

Specific details as to the decision have yet to be revealed, though we imagine those looks [chews knuckle] and the exclusivity involved no doubt had potential owners champing at the proverbial bit: since 1960, only five collaborations between Aston Martin and Italian coachbuilders Zagato have appeared, starting with the DB4 GT Zagato in 1960 – now valued at a whopping $15m today – through to the V12 Vantage Zagato of 2011 via the V8 Vantage Zagato (1986) and DB7 Vantage Zagato (2002).

Ostensibly the bodywork remains ‘closely related’ to its concept, key elements of which have been inspired by other limited edition Astons over the years. The ‘bladed’ technology used for the headlights for instance is a nod to the Vulcan track-car, the wing mirrors lifted from the One-77, and the side strakes between the wheel arches and doors are inspired directly by the CC-100. The bodywork itself is all carbon fibre, complete with ‘double bubble’ roof first used on Aston Martin race cars in the 1950s so drivers could fit in the cabin with their helmets on. Inside is a sea of Herringbone carbon fibre, anodised bronze and ‘Z’ embossed leather upholstery.

Aside from some ‘unique suspension setup’, there’s little structural difference to the Vanquish on which the Zagato design sits, the limited edition boasting the same 6-litre V12 ahead of the twin-turbo V12 variant‘s arrival. Power though has been upped a whisker to 592bhp – a 24bhp upgrade – and while revisions to the torque have yet to be revealed, increased grunt means the Zagato is now three-tenths quicker to 100kph at 3.5 seconds.

Their half a million dollars put to good use, those 99 customers should be receiving their Zagato limited edition Vanquishes in the new year. In the meantime, just to rub in what we’re missing, Aston has also dropped the below video teaser. Following the DB10’s cinematic debut, no doubt the fight is now on as to whether the new DB11 or the Zagato will be 007’s next company car.
