Bentley’s first ever production SUV, the Bentayga, will headline the British marque’s stand at this year’s Dubai International Motor Show.

The Bentayga, named for the ‘Roque Bentayga’ rugged peak in the Canary Islands, was first unveiled in conceptual form in Geneva in 2012, the production model making its debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Speculation also suggests the first full year of production models – between 3000 and 4500 – have already been pre-sold.

Built on the same platform as the Q7 and all-new Cayenne from sister companies Audi and Volkswagen, the Bentayga includes an aluminium-intensive body, all-new computer-controlled air spring suspension and runs atop 20in alloys. The premium SUV is powered by a heavily revised twin-turbocharged petrol W12 – the basis of which can also be found in the Flying Spur and Mulsanne flagship – which weighs 2422kg, and packs 600bhp and 663lb ft of torque. Said unit is mated with an eight-speed ZF automatic, which delivers power to all four wheels.

Other models set to appear on Bentley’s stand in Dubai alongside the Bentayga include the the new Mulsanne Speed, the Continental GT Speed Mulliner, the Continental GT V8 S Convertible and the Flying Spur W12.
