Meet Luigi. He’s 49 years old, has spent his life travelling around Europe, and recently underwent surgery that took four months to complete. Since then he’s been left with carer Anneta Calisi, and the two make an ideal couple. Luigi, as I hope you’ve already guessed by now, is a 1964 Fiat 500D.

The little two-cylinder Fiat, which runs on 12-inch wheels and takes almost a minute to hit 100kph off the line, has undergone a four-month restoration, with the finest detail being noted to bring the 500D back to factory-fresh quality. To truly make the restoration complete, Anneta makes it her duty to – in her own words – ‘to bring the character, personality and ambience of the sixties when I take this car for a drive’.

Cue a silken scarf, white driving gloves and big smiles from all around.
