Novitec takes McLaren 600LT to new heights with 678bhp

As if the standard McLaren 600LT wasn’t enough, the German tuner has given the latest Long Tail more power than a 675

McLaren substantially reworked its 570S to create the 600LT, but German tuner Novitec obviously feels that the factory tweaks don’t go far enough. Though we’re not entirely sure that the 600LT required more go, Novitec’s take on the car certainly has that, and more besides.

Factory-fresh, McLaren’s Long Tail model produces a healthy 592bhp and 457lb ft of torque for a 2.9sec 0-100kph time and 204 top speed. Novitec didn’t think this was quite enough and so bumped the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 to 678bhp and 525ft lb of torque, bringing the 0-100kph sprint down a tenth and top speed up to 333kph – for reference, the Super Series 675LT had a mere 666bhp and 516lb ft of torque. The additional 86bhp and 68lb ft on the 600LT come thanks to the use of an ECU tune, and the addition of Novitec’s own stainless steel exhaust system, complete with more free-flowing catalytic converters. Lower levels of power upgrade can also be chosen.

Though you obviously get the benefits of additional power and torque, the brand says each level of tune gives you better throttle response and in-gear acceleration. To make life a little easier, if you’d like to switch your 600LT back to standard for a long motorway cruise, Novitec gives you the ability to toggle the tune off with the factory dynamic panel inside.

Aside from the modifications under the skin, Novitec also worked its magic on the exterior, offering a new two-piece carbon fibre airbox, a more aggressive, exposed carbonfibre front bonnet and lowering springs, reducing ride height by 30mm. Also making an appearance are a staggered set of lightweight forged wheels, designed in partnership with US wheel manufacturer Vossen.

As with all Novitec products, customisation is a big factor. The new, 20 and 21” forged wheels can be had in 77 different colours, in either brushed or polished finishes, and inside, you can opt to have a completely custom design, with Novitec capable of reupholstering the interior in any colour of your choice.

Pricing and availability for the upgrades are available upon request.
