What if you could make a Ducati out of Meccano…

Ducati has announced its new partnership with Spin Master Corporation to create and distribute a series of Meccano models.

There’s good news for all Ducati fans this week as the Italian marque has just revealed the latest edition to its line-up, which will shortly be on sale for the low, low price of just $35. Of course, one slight downside is that you’ll have to assemble it yourself. And the top speed isn’t particularly impressive since there’s no engine. And the bike itself is less than 12 inches tall.

Said newboy is the Monster 1200 S (one of the company’s most popular road bikes) and it marks Ducati’s debut to the world of Meccano following an official licencing agreement between Bologna’s favourite bike merchants and the Spin Master Corporation under which the Meccano brand falls. As a result, the detailing of the new Monster 1200 S is set to be very impressive. As well as featuring a fully functional kickstand to the side-mounted staggered shotgun exhaust, there’s also coil-spring suspension, multi-piece wheels and a real steering rack. All together, the model is made up of 290 different parts. And yes, it does come in red. The only choice now is whether you opt for the Meccano Ducati or the LEGO…well, everything…

Though bike fans will be familiar with Ducati’s road range – which it has been building since 1946 following the company’s foundation two decades earlier – one of the company’s more high profile campaigns remains MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship, in which it has secured 17 Manufacturer’s Championships and 14 Rider’s Championships across both disciplines, and by 2011, it had racked up 300 career victories.
