Kia GT4 Stinger Concept. Yep, a Kia, honest!

The new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept hits Detroit. No, honest, it really is a Kia.

[Not a valid template]

Your eyes do not deceive you. Yes, above that sleek front grille and between those rather natty Audi-esque headlights is a Kia badge.

We can only assume that somebody in the Korean design department has gone raving mad with the crayons, or a sheet of tracing paper and a key to the back door at Zagato is the new ‘design inspiration’. Either way, like it, love it, loathe it, there’s no denying the new GT4 Stinger concept – a sneak preview of which hit Twitter before its official unveil – is the most eye-catching Kia to have broken cover in living memory. It does also beg the question, is this just the tip of the iceberg?

Taking the 315hp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, six-speed manual transmission and 275/35R20 Pirelli P-Zero performance tyres for granted and as mere details, take a closer look at the design. Beneath the Ignition Yellow paintwork, you’ll find Audi’s R8, Aston Martin’s Vantage V8, Chevrolet’s Corvette Stingray and even BMW’s Z4. Are we complaining? Certainly not. We’ve mentioned time and again that Korea’s finest have been on something of a roll the past few years, with the Kia Niro, the Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis and the Genesis Coupe among the most significant models. The GT4 Stinger is another notch on the belt, and while we’re unlikely to see this coupe on the roads anytime soon, you can colour us very intrigued to see what’s on the horizon.

And yes, a Stinger from Korea. We’d noticed that too.
