After over a month layoff UAE National Racing resumed, with the second half of the 2009/2010 Championship this Friday (29 January 2010) at Dubai Autodrome. Close racing, with a tinge of controversy, were the order of the day.

Round 6 was always going to be a tough round on the 2009/2010 season calendar as the annual opening of the oven door took place the week before seeing temps rise above 35 degrees.?? For Karim Al Azhari it was an important day in his campaign at the wheel of the TAM Auto Engineering – Callaway prepared House of Portier Corvette Z06R-GT3.

Third place or better would ensure him the 2009/2010 Total UAE GT Championship GTA class title. ??It could not have started worse for the Dubai based driver who was relegated to the back of the grid due to a technical infringement in qualifying. However as we foresaw it wouldn’t take long to get back up the sharp end and within 2 laps he was behind the leading duo of Andrew Donaldson (Cytech Porsche) who was ahead of the Julian Griffin/Rob Barff (DXB Racing Dodge Viper).

After frantic pit stops necessitating fresh air and water Al Azhari was up to second again with Donaldson in his sights. Andrew was absolutely on form though and kept Karim at arms length for the rest of the race…For Al Azhari this meant that he had successfully notched up his fifth UAE national championship after his runaway start to the championship.

I sincerely hope that Andrew Donaldson stay’s around for the rest of the season as it is great to see the Vette pushed as hard as the drivers deserve.

We will be bringing you lots more detail in the next week.
