Shots of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk have been revealed ahead of its debut at next week’s New York Motor Show.

Sporting the ‘Trailhawk’ top-of-the-range moniker (an example of which we experienced last year in an off-road race against a Wrangler Sahara), the newly beefed-up trim level of the Grand Cherokee gets some sporty off-road touches including silver, black and red touches distinguishing the model, with cladding for added protection when off-roading, as well as chunkier tyres and a raised ride height and added cladding to cope with the rough terrain. The cabin meanwhile receives silver and red touches to match the exterior.

Engine options for the Grand Cherokee remain unchanged, Jeep offering both a ‘up to 295bhp’ 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and a 360bhp 5.7-litre V8 that produce 260lb ft and 390lb ft respectively. Performance figures have yet to be unveiled – we’ll just have to wait until the show next week to find out more – though expect the new model to prove a demon on the rough stuff.
