The so-called ‘UAE Ferraristi’ had plenty to celebrate this week as the Middle East became the first region worldwide to launch the new 812 Superfast, the fastest front-engine Ferrari in history.

In an effort to really hammer home the engine’s significance, attendees – including prospective customers – were encouraged to ‘Shift to the 12th Dimension’, which…yeah, is as nauseating as that sounds. Unsurprisingly, the unveil – complete with prancing horse embossed red lanterns – was dedicated to the new naturally aspirated V12 under the bonnet, the 812 Superfast’s brand new set of lungs bringing optimising the intake system and combustion efficiency and an additional 234cc over the departing F12berlinetta

Power, as it turns out, isn’t everything though, Ferrari dedicating much of the unveil to the heritage of Maranello’s V12 powerplants, particularly the first such example that appeared in the 125 S in 1947. The team might also have mentioned that 2017 marks 70 years of the prancing horse a couple of times too…

At 789bhp, the 812 Superfast is some 86bhp more powerful than the F12berlinetta it replaces, torque doing likewise as the F12berlinetta’s 509lb ft rises to 530lb ft in its successor, 80 per cent of which is a prod of the throttle away from 3500rpm. This also makes the V12 shoehorned under the bonnet as powerful as the hybrid LaFerrari. Indeed, with the exceptional of said hypercar, this also makes the 812 Superfast ‘the most high-performance production Ferrari ever’. Said oomph is directed to the rear wheels via a Formula 1 inspired seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

On the sprint to the ton, the 812 Superfast also gets its nose in front by hitting 100kph in 2.9 secs versus the F12berlinetta’s 3.1 secs, going on to hit 200kph in a quite incredible 7.9 secs against the F12berlinetta’s 8.5 secs. Each will plough on to a top speed ‘over 340kph’. Though Maranello has yet to announce pricing, you can expect many to be ruffling down the back of the sofa for close to $300K.

We’ll stop short of running through all the numbers at play, but for those of you interested, you can check out how the 812 Superfast stacks up against the F12berlinetta in the table at the bottom of the page. And yes, it’s fairly one-sided.

Other items of note on Ferrari’s new grand tourer are the subtle design tweaks over the F12berlinetta, the 812 Superfast now including new ‘Rosso Settanta’ paint, revised quad taillights, new air intakes up front, plus all manner of aerodynamic aids like active flaps and that enormous rear diffuser. You shouldn’t need us to tell you how complex the technology is on the Ferrari, the newboy featuring updated versions of Side Slip Control (SSC) and ‘Virtual Short Wheelbase’, both of which aim to improve the Ferrari’s agility. Expect us to confirm that when test models make their appearance in September.
