The Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen has long been established as the King of the Road in the Middle East, the show-stopper being the twelve-cylinder G 65 AMG. BRABUS has now used this as the basis for the 800 WIDESTAR which has debuted at the 2013 Qatar Motor Show. Enter THE G-Wagon

BRABUS has breathed rather heavily on the 6.0-litre Biturbo engine and the V12 now produces 800hp at 5,500rpm. Integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers optimise throttle response and produce a higher boost pressure than the production turbos. Four water-to-air intercoolers, arranged under the carbon-fibre hood scoop, ensure lower charge-air temperatures benefiting power yield and durability even under extreme conditions such as in the desert.

The BRABUS 800 WIDESTAR hits 100kph in just 4.2 seconds with a top speed electronically limited to 250kph. Without the limiter, this high-performance off-roader will allegedly reach a top speed of 270kph. Very impressive from something that if you were to work out its aerodynamic coefficient (CR = R/½? v2S CM = M/½ ? v2Sl) would probably be similar to a house.

Width has increased by 12 centimetres and the 800 WIDESTAR rolls on massive 23-inch forged wheels, available in three different designs. The suspension set-up, developed in cooperation with Bilstein, allows the driver to choose between two setups on the two-way electrically adjustable shock absorbers: comfort mode for chilled out cruising and sports mode for chilled out but much faster cruising.

The interior can also be custom-tailored to the owner’s personal preferences as BRABUS offer an almost infinite choice in upholstery designs, colour and materials as well as a variety of wood or carbon fibre inlays.

As with previous BRABUS models, the price has been announced as ‘if you have to ask, you can’t afford it’.
