This, of course, brought up UK artist Benedict Radcliffe.
Up top is his full-scale replica of a Lamborghini Countach. And incredibly, that wasn’t even his first one. The original Lambo!, though unpainted, was effectively a fully-functioning bicycle and made its debut at the UK’s ART CAR exhibit in 2007. A two-man job, this was a rare occasion when a ‘backseat driver’ was beneficial.
His follow-up Lambo! 2 was a static exhibit but a revised design concept required more painstaking attention to detail. Each 10mm steel tube, for example, was individually painted fluro orange. Even the ‘PirelliP7’ on the ‘tyres’ was spelt out.
Inspiration for the second Countach knuckle scraper came from Radcliffe’s ‘Modern Japanese Classic’ project in 2005, in which a Subaru Impreza P1 was mapped out in wireframe before being filed, assembled and painted arctic white.
And you might even recognise this one. In a wireframe garage filled to the steel beams with supercars and performance machines, Radcliffe still had room for the hatchback commuter. Commissioned by Japan’s Dentsu Inc., this Toyota Corolla was the principal star of an advertising campaign in the Middle East.
