8 AWESOME Formula 1 concept designs

  1. McLaren MP6/P

The next addition to our list is among the coolest – despite it being arguably the least radical – simply because of the time and effort artist Nathan Dearsley put into the backstory. The year is 2056, and McLaren – its lacklustre 2015 season with engine partner Honda now firmly behind it – is determined to recreate the dominance of its ’88 MP4/4 with the all-new MP6/P, whose four-wheel drive system combines hybrid tech at the front and combustion at the rear. Recognisable F1 traits like the front and rear wings, sidepods and open suspension remain intact, all part of the ‘purposefully primitive design (artist’s words, not mine) that first started testing in iconic Marlboro colours in the early 1990s, as the ‘spy shot’ reveals.
