I think it is safe to say that Danny Thompson, the son of Mickey Thompson (he of the famous tyres), inherited his fathers need for speed! You need to have that need if you feel comfortable hoping into a 1,300-horsepower Ford Mustang and heading out to the salt in search of the ultimate rush.

Danny, who had previously knocked off a run of 403kph had the continual urge to go faster. They say once it is in the blood, it keeps niggling you every day! That brings us to this video that we spotted over on Autoblog, which shows Danny chasing the 400kph mark. As you will see though, the wild ride that was planned turned into a wild ride he would never have expected. The truly shocking aspect of the crash is that Danny and his Mustang traveled 1,100 feet before returning to the salt!!

Rather amazingly, after the car came to a rest, Danny hopped out of the car without a scratch! No minor injuries, scratches or bruises! Not a tickle! Testament to the continual moves in the right direction when it comes to automotive safety.
