2014 Porsche 918 Spyder. Nürburgring

HIgh speed footage of the Porsche 918 Spyder caught at the Nürburgring.

Porsche 918 Spyder

Most of the footage of the new breed of hyper-hybrid sportscars floating around on the interwebasphere falls into three categories. The first of these is the manufacturer’s own footage featuring high-production values and mainly teasing without any real beef. The second is the highly enjoyable reviews of the cars with mucho slideways con opo to help in the ratings war. While the third is the low quality ‘spy’ footage caught by some bloke standing at the side of a track with a GoPro.

This footage – from Car News – doesn’t really fall neatly into any of those three categories and the video (although we can guess the location) doesn’t even contain a description. It is simply footage of a Porsche 918 Spyder giving it the hybrid beans manoeuvre on-track which appears to have been stitched together on various runs – the #15 Porsche loses its Martini livery halfway through.

It might just be me but it is refreshing to see a hybrid-hypercar car doing what it was designed to do without any of the associated hyper-hype. Enjoy.
