What does it take to scare a Formula One driver? These are athletes trained to withstand relentless g-force and 350+kph top speeds for over two hours on every other weekend.  Years of racing in junior formulae mean doubts, such as ‘what if my tyre blows?’ and ‘what if my brakes fail at the end of the straight?, have long since been rescinded.

As it turns out, riding shotgun with an F1 colleague is a white-knuckle experience. F1 veteran – and BBC pundit – David Coulthard last year accepted Nico Rosberg’s offer of a spin around the Nordschleife in a Mercedes SLS AMG. What David didn’t know before buckling up was that – other than a quick driving lesson from Mercedes team-mate Michael Schumacher – this would be Nico’s first time tackling the 22km circuit.
