WHAT A MACHINE! 1986 Audi S1 Quattro (replica)

crankandpiston.com gets up close and personal with this meticulously constructed replica of a 1986 Audi S1 Quattro, that of Group B rallying fame.

Any of you familiar with Group B rallying (or indeed were fitted with a pulse at birth) will need little introduction to this astonishingly beautiful Audi S1 Quattro. Winner of two World Rally Championships and pushed to stardom by the driving skills of former champions Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist and Hannu Mikkola among others, the Quattro crafted a formidable reputation on the loose stuff from ’81 to ’86, usually at the merciless expense of its nearest rivals.

And crankandpiston.com only went and found one at the Dubai Autodrome.

Well, we say ‘found one’. The Audi S1 Quattro above is actually a replica, meticulously researched and constructed across a period more than 2000 hours by Rolf Volland, our protagonist today and a former German Rallycross champion in his own right.

I imagine though you’re already champing at the bit to hear that awesome, AWESOME soundtrack. Ready when you are Rolf…
