VIDEO. ’17 Nissan GT-R hot lap. Dubai Autodrome

Join crankandpiston on-board the new-for-2017 Nissan GT-R for a hot lap of the Dubai Autodrome Grand Prix Circuit.

The wait is finally over. Nearly ten months after its unveil in New York last year, crankandpiston finally got its clammy mitts on the 2017 Nissan GT-R at the Dubai Autodrome.

Tempting prospect, isn’t it? Leaving aside the whole ‘premium’ fit and finish – and yes, we will be coming back to that in our write-up – the GT-R still packs more than enough whallop to leave Porsche’s 911 whimpering in its Goodyears. Power is now up to 562bhp, torque up to 470lb ft, and top speed a dizzying 315kph. Launch the beast and you’ll still hit 100kph beneath the three-second mark. Alongside that, there’s new aerodynamics for greater downforce and less drag, revised suspension for improved ride quality (uh huh…) and road holding, and subtly revised gearbox telemetry to make acceleration even more wince-inducing for the vertebrae in your neck.

Of course, the big question is how this has affected performance? We still have a few weeks to go before we can test on-road capabilities, but on the Autodrome’s Grand Prix layout, the GT-R remains an absolute beast. Again, a full write-up will follow in due course, but for now, why not hop on-board with our man AJ for his fast lap. Just try to ignore the go-pro our instructor Saeed is holding…
