Renault certainly found a unique way to make its official return to the Formula 1 paddock as a manufacturer. Sure, they could have simply dropped the silks to reveal the (very) yellow R.S.16 for the first time. But instead, the team threw 2016 drivers Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer quite literally into the deep end with Aussie surfer pro surfer Ellie-Jean Coffey.during an unorthodox presentation to the assembled masses at Boat Harbour Park beach, just outside Sydney.

Don’t worry though. The car used was a demo model, so there’s no worries as to whether it will be dry or not ahead of this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix. Oh, and any ‘sink or swim’ analogies you might have concocted ahead of the team’s first official start as a manufacturer since 2011 we’re sure are purely coincidental. Despite a pre-season test plagued with ups and downs for the new R.S.16…
