Opening 2016 is our second on-board lap of the day, this time behind the wheel of the brand new 911 GT3 R at the Buttonville Raceway Park in California. Driver Matt McMurray, the youngest driver to ever participate at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is set to compete with the Park Place Motorsports team in this year’s IMSA SportsCar Championship.

Deemed lighter, faster, and ‘more economical’ than its predecessor, the new Porsche 911 GT3 R was unveiled back in May, sporting a revised carbon-fibre composite material body, a sequential six-speed gearbox, and a larger braking system, as well as a tributary livery to Porsche’s World Endurance Championship winning 919 Hybrid. The four-litre flat-six, lifted from the road-legal 911 GT3 RS, produces more than 500hp, while capacity of the fuel cell has now been upped to 120 litres.
