We’ll admit this particular video has been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks now, but what better time to run through the evolution of the Porsche 911 than shortly after the unveil of the new 911 R?

The story begins with the 901 back in 1964, a 130hp flat-six boxer-powered successor to the formidable 356 that made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963. By 1967, and with some rib-digging from Peugeot to remove the ‘0’ and thus stop Stuttgart from treading on the French marque’s hallowed ground, the new 911 S had appeared on the scene with more power and significantly reduced weight.

And so began a legacy that still continues strongly to this day, having taken on-board Fuchs alloys, the ducktail spoiler, and turbocharged engines among others. But as you can see by the below video, that classic silhouette rarely deviated from the original design.
