Demon unleashed. Dodge ‘raises the bar’ on Challenger SRT Hellcat

Dodge ‘raises the bar’ on the Hellcat with the imminent arrival of the more powerful Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

In possibly the most over-dramatic teaser clip since an Audi R8 gave birth to an RS3 (seriously, click this link HERE and ask yourself what the hell you just watched…), Dodge has released a new video that teases a new, more powerful version of the 707bhp Challenger SRT Hellcat, the Demon.

The teaser clip shows a mechanical creature, being stored at Dodge’s Research Lab in Detroit, Michigan, being released from its cage into the city, whereupon – after ‘a little fuel kicks the intensity up a notch’, it transforms into a Demon. Think Jurassic Park meets Jeepers Creepers with an underlying V8 soundtrack, and you’re on the right track.

But what is it? Well, for starters, the new Challenger, rekindles the ‘Demon’ nomenclature first used on a two-door fastback version of the Dart saloon back in the early 1970s, as well as the ill-fated Dodge Demon roadster that appeared as a concept in Geneva in 2007. According to Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis though – via The Detroit News – the Demon ‘raises the bar again’ on the Hellcat premise:

“It’s conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”

No further details concerning performance or technical specifications have been released at present, nor has there been any confirmation that a Demon equivalent of the 707bhp Charger SRT Hellcat will be making an appearance too. ‘Cage’ though is just the first of several teasers that will be launched on the ifyouknowyouknow microsite over the next few weeks, ahead of the Challenger SRT Demon’s release in 2018 alongside the Challenger and Charger Hellcats.

It’s been speculated that the new Challenger SRT Demon is Dodge’s answer to a new, more rampant Mustang about to drop from Ford, though Kuniskis assures fans the Demon is “new chapter in the Dodge brand’s performance legacy. It’s part of our heritage and it’s a great name.”
