Porsche has unveiled a faster, lighter and more efficient 911 GT3 R track weapon, which is now available to customer teams. The new boy was revealed ahead of this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Based on the new 911 GT3 RS (which made its debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show), design for the GT3 R was based on lightweight build, greater aerodynamic efficiency and improved handling among others. Among the key components is the extended wheelbase (at 2463mm, this is 83mm greater than its predecessor) for improved weight distribution and more predictable handling. Key also to the aerodynamics is the whopping great rear wing and vents in the rear wheel arch. The radiator has also been repositioned for a better centre of gravity.

Power comes from a 4-litre water-cooled flat-six boxer, a derivative of that found in the GT3 RS, and at present has only been confirmed as ‘over 500hp’. Mated to a sequential six-speed gearbox, the to-be-fully-determined horsepower is sent to the 18in rear wheels, while stopping power has been upped thanks to larger ventilated brake discs, 380mm at the front, 372mm at the rear.

Should you have half a mil to spare, customer deliveries are set to take place in December.
