The Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most iconic and glamourous races on the Formula 1 calendar, and the 2016 event takes place this weekend. We thought we’d have a look back at some of the best moments in the Monaco Grand Prix’s illustrious history.

1. The First Race (1929)

The principality’s first race came just a few decades into the history of the car, but it attracted some of the finest early racing drivers. Some 16 racers took part and it was a Briton, William Grover-Williams who emerged victorious in his Bugatti T35B. He would go on to be a spy in World War II, and was executed by the Nazis.
