Audi has unveiled a brand new, track-spec version of its new TT sports car ahead of a brand new single-make motorsport series next year. The new Audi TT Cup headlines the all-new Sport TT Cup, which will run as a support series to the DTM German touring car championship for aspiring racers.

Based on the third generation TT – which made an appearance at the Paris Motor Show alongside the new Sportback concept – the new TT Cup car uses the same 1125kg lightweight steel and aluminium body as its road-going counterpart as well as adopted versions of the 2.0-litre TFSI four-cylinder and six-speed S tronic gearbox. Though the four-cylinder produces 310hp, a new ‘push-to-pass’ function temporarily boosts the power output by 30hp. Another notable addition to the TT Cup is the PS1 racing seat, adopted from Audi’s successful R8 LMS Ultra with which it won 24-hour races at both the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps in 2012.

Supporting each of the six rounds of next year’s DTM schedule (with two races at each round), the new Sport TT Cup boasts a field 24-cars strong, six of which will be reserved for guest drivers. Each car will be prepped by Audi’s performance arm Quattro GmbH, while Markus Winkelhock – former FIA GT1 World Champion and one-time Grand Prix leader – will be on hand to coach participants during the inaugural Sport TT Cup season.

The winner of the first season will also receive support from Audi to move up into its successful GT3 sports car program.
