When you stick a 8.4l V10 that produces 640hp in an all-new version of an American muscle car classic, then use words like ‘extreme performance’ in the official press release, it stands to reason that at some point there will be a track-going variant.

And, thankfully, such is the case with the 2013 SRT Viper GTS-R, which has just completed its first shakedown test at the Carolina Motorsports Park in the hands of development driver Marc Goosens. There’s still plenty to get excited about following this first test, since the SRT Viper will make it’s American Le Mans Series debut later this year in the GT category.
