We’re no strangers to the Radical Cup car at crankandpiston. You spend enough time at UAE Touring Car/GT Championship events and you see your fair share. Speak with the drivers, the teams and give this James Littlejohn video a glimpse, and you’ll get a fair idea how a Radical handles too.
So news from the British-based company announcing that a new concept model – the SR1, seen here doing the rounds at Brands Hatch – has arrived on the scene should spark a few smiles from the audience, especially since the team who brought you the SR9 LMP2 category endurance racer has developed it.
Specs-wise we find a RPE-Suzuki four-cylinder engine under the bonn…under the chassis, which produces 210bhp. Now, since the SR1 weighs just 520kg and therefore only slightly more than a paperclip, the new concept will hurtle from 0-100kph in 3.6s on its way to a 222kph top speed.
Slowing down should be similarly, ahem, affective on the neck muscles – Radical has even highlighted the 1.8 and 2.3 g-forces at work under braking and through the corners – thanks to a six-speed sequential gearbox and 240mm ventilated brakes front and rear.
Now, truth be told, it may be a while before the new SR1 hits the Middle East, but for those of you who have just taken the bait, you might also be interested to know that the UAE Radical Winter Cup kicks off at the Dubai Autodrome on 4 October.
Yep. crankandpiston will be there too.
