VIDEO. Lamborghini Huracán GT3. On-track

Lamborghini Huracán GT3 takes to the track for the first time ahead of its debut Blancpain Endurance Series season next year.

Lamborghini headlines have been monopolised by the Asterion, the Italian marque’s hybrid supercar that will most definitely NOT (wink) be going into production any time soon. So widespread was the coverage in fact that the first on-track test session for Lambo’s new baby model – the Huracán – almost passed by unnoticed.

The new Huracán GT3 will replace the Gallardo GT3 in next year’s Blancpain Endurance Series, and has already hit the Vallelunga circuit in Italy for its opening run. Overseen by chief test driver Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini Squadra Corse drivers Adrian Zaugg and Fabio Babini took the new Huracán GT3 – Lambo’s first complete in-house production of a GT3 machine – for a spin around the ‘Piero Taruffi’ circuit to gauge the work left to do ahead of next season. Dallara Automobil meanwhile are working to develop the Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, to be used in the marque’s single make Super Trofeo series.

As well as the Blancpain, the Huracán GT3 in 2016 will also take on ‘the most important North American and Asian race meetings’, though there has been no confirmation on which events this will include.
