We got all excited when news of another endurance race filtered through the rather odd PR distribution channels we have here in the Middle East. The brief initially was that Yas Marina Circuit would be hosting a 12 hour endurance epic in pretty close proximity to the ever successful Dubai 24hrs. All well and good considering the weather is stunning around that time and there would be a gut load of cars on shore that could all potentially take part.

So, the details then. The races are due to take place on the 20th January… yup you read that right, races. So the plan is to have two events, six hours in duration each. In between each race, there will be a 40 minute break to allow teams to work on their steads and also give the fans a chance to soak up some of the atmosphere in the pits. Sadly the event is exceptionally close to the 24hrs but hopefully that wont be detrimental. It will be a case of finishing the race in Dubai, undertaking two full days of check-ups and then making the way to Abu Dhabi to start practice etc.

The cars – As always the powers that be reserve the right to add or cancel, but it is the usual suspects. There is a GT Class including GT2 and GT3, then it trickles down from there. GT4, FIA GroupB, FIA Group N, Non-homologated Touring cars etc etc. Pretty much everything then.

Sadly though, the event is be invitation only but at least you can throw your hat in the ring… so more a case of “if your face fits’ which means everyone has a shot. So what are you waiting for?
