We like WRC! Yes it has lost it’s way a tickle over the last couple of years, but having said that, the coming season with its new raft of regulation changes and cars, is shaping up to be pretty cool. What with the Prodrive built Mini Countryman, the new Citroen DS3 monster and now this – the Ford Fiesta WRC car – situations are definitely looking rosy.
So as mentioned during the Paris Motorshow Ford wheeled out their very angry new addition to the ranks and if it is as capable as it is fantastic to look at, they will be onto a winner.
To ensure compliance with new regulations the Fiesta RS WRC will make use of an all-new 300bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine, on which Ford has collaborated with M-Sport and respected French Tuner Pipo Monteur. A four-wheel-drive transmission incorporating a six-speed sequential gearbox will also be in attendance.
With Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala in the hot seat, the chances of recreating the magic that is not that far back in Ford illustrious history is ever present. Lest we forget that Ford are the most successful manufacturer in world championship history with 75 rally wins to date.
Stand by for the first round of the new FIA World Rally Championship kicking off in February 2011 in a rather chilly Sweden.
