I was hawking around the entry listings for the 2011 running of the Dubai 24hrs for a friend the other day and was completely blown away to see that four months out there is already eighty+ entries booked in for the race. Eighty teams – Can you believe it!?
Mind you from what we know there is a max of ninety slots on the grid, so if you are interested in running next year, you better get a wriggle on and register. As an added incentive there will be a special class for the Porsche 996 and 997 generations. As there are still so many 996 based race cars out there that are a bucket load lighter on the wallet than the equivalent 997 generation car, it seems to make a lot of sense to us.
The A6 class will therefore now be the stomping ground for the GT2 and GT3 cars. With Porsches RSR’s, Cup S’s and Cup R’s, there will also be a collection of Audi R8 LMS, Lamborghini, BMW Z4 GT3, Corvette, Ferrari 430, Jaguar XKR’s and even the Spyker C8 Laviolette allowed to run in the category. The best news of the lot though is that the organisers have received the request from two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG cars to race….Perfect!
Roll on January 2011 – It’s the Future!
