You may remember crankandpiston’s attendance at the Aston Martin V12 Zagato launch last November. Woops and “whoa!”s were only outdone by the audible sounds of jaws hitting the linoleum and attempts to revive members of the assembled media. Needless to say, the Zagato ticked the right boxes.
Likely as not, this will probably get the blood pumping too. This is the race-spec Zagato V12 that Aston Martin will run during this year’s Nurburgring 24 Hours.
These are not untested waters for the Zagato, since a race-spec GT3 version of the concept model made its competitive debut during last year’s Nurburgring 24-hour marathon. We do wonder if that makes EVO Magazine’s Richard Meaden – in the Zagato hot seat among others this year, by the by – any less nervous.
Those of you not particularly enamoured with the new Zagato (and we can’t imagine there’s a lot of you) will be pleased to learn that Aston’s eight-strong Nurburgring fleet– supported by GT1 World Championship heavyweights Young Driver AMR – this year also includes four factory-backed Vantage GT3s.
Filtering through the PR speech, Aston are said to be ‘ready for the challenge’. Given more than 170 cars are set to take on the Green Hell in just under a week’s time, that’s probably just as well.
