I’ll happily admit that the world of Ferrari has never clicked with me. There is no denying the cars, the companies incredible heritage and history is worthy of salivation, however for some reason that I can’t really pin point… it’s just never happened for me (excuse the 250 California and the F40 though please). That all changed very recently though, when crankandpiston was kindly thrown the keys to the 458 Italia. Since then I’ve been having naughty thoughts!
Those naughty thoughts just got worse! Far far worse… When an invite dropped in via carrier pigeon, for an opportunity to have 7 hours of hedonistic driving across the Northern Italian countryside in the stunning Ferrari 458 Spider – The fizz started!
So bags packed, 12 hours travel from Dubai and we arrived. It is truly beautiful experience when you walk through arrivals to be met by a lovely Italian lady dressed in a sharp Ferrari suit. Sadly there were no cars sat waiting for us, so into the Fiat mini bus we hopped and started the shlep to the hotel.
Ah, beautiful green countryside!
Making the journey more interesting and light hearted was Kevin Hackett from the National. A proper guy and a quality journo… a rarity in our part of the world.
After about an hour of mundane driving from Bologne we arrived at our base camp for the planned couple of days – Matilda di Canosa. Stunning and utterly apt. Sadly there wasn’t a car on site, so the tease was continued.
With dinner planned and a full technical brief ahead of us, we’ve got some juicy details and pics coming your way very soon. Mind you, the best bit is still waiting on the side lines.
