This is it guys – the new Honda NSX. We’ve been waiting for too long, but the wait is nearly over. Badged as an Acura for the North American market, the new production NSX was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show. It’ll be sold as a Honda in Europe and most other markets around the world.

The new all-wheel drive NSX arrives 25 years after the original, and sports a new hybrid powertrain, comprising a twin-turbocharged DOHC V6 with a nine-speed dual clutch transmission, mated to not one, not two, but three electric motors – one at the back between the engine and transmission, and two at the front to use for dynamic torque vectoring between left and right.

The body has been built to be ultra-rigid and super light, by way of a high-strength steel and aluminium internal structure and a carbonfibre floor. It’s low and wide, with an aggressive front end and tail lights that hark back to the original Honda NSX. Floating C-pillars and the familiar air intake channel air into the mid-mounted engine and also direct airflow over the rear deck to increase downforce. The styling is not exactly the same as the NSX Concept we saw in 2012 – the car is longer and wider to cope with the engine, and the cabin has been moved slightly forward. There are also aerodynamic tweaks following wind tunnel testing.

The wheels – 19s at the front and 20s at the rear – ride on Continental ContiSportContacts, while big six-pot callipers at the front and four-pots at the back provide the stopping power.

Orders open in the summer, with deliveries due to start towards the end of the year.
