‘News’ that Porsche is a crankandpiston favourite should hardly come as a surprise. The eGarage tour turned into a two hour lunch break shortly after we discovered it, while both the 918 RSR and 993 RS turned our knees to jelly in seconds.

So you can imagine what effect these shots of a mint Porsche 356B Convertible – courtesy of our man on the ground in Bahrain – had on us. This, the 356 (in B version), was the company’s first production model. And how’s this for lineage: its replacement was the industry spanking 911!

But time is a great healer, and this beautiful slice of nostalgia today is a collector car top trump. And with speculation that Porsche may re-introduce the 356 in 2013, what better time to get our tails wagging?
